Mass Effect 3‘s multiplayer is now available for all to play. I have not tested the multiplayer on PC or PS3, but it does work for both Xbox Live Gold and Silver members. I double checked with my newly created Silver account and it is also visible and ready for download. But being able to play Mass Effect 3 does not appear to give Silver account holders complete Gold access.
I tested multiplayer use this morning and was able to start a match in I. To access the multiplayer, you will need create an EA account that will sync with you gamertag but that is nothing new. Unfortunately, while you can play Mass Effect‘s multiplayer, you will not be treated to other Gold amenities. I tested Red Faction: Guerrilla’s multiplayer (because it was sitting next to my Xbox) and was met with a screen telling me to upgrade to Gold. I also tested the Netflix app was greeted with the same thing. Finally, other demos released this week are not available for Silver members to download.
This is unfortunate because the way the announcement was worded, I thought that maybe downloaders of the Mass Effect demo would receive full Gold access. Apparently that was just wishful thinking on my part.
“In celebration of ME3, Xbox is pleased to provide fans access to ME3 demo multiplayer for the time leading to launch. Xbox LIVE Gold gives you exclusive benefits including multiplayer gaming, member-only deals & previews, and access to entertainment with Netflix, ESPN, Hulu Plus and more.”
If you have a different experience with the Mass Effect 3 demo, if it works or doesn’t or even you just want to tell the whole world how much you love/hate it, you can do so in the comments below.
