Borderlands 2 Arriving In 6 Months, 24 Days, and 10-ish Hours

Borderlands 2 has an official release date. It is September 18th. Fortunately, Gearbox is cognizant of how terminal that wait must feel for fans of the newly minted series, and took steps to soften the blow/rub salt in the wound with a terrific new trailer. That’s not all. Gearbox actually took things a step further and added dubstep to it, proving that nothing, absolutely nothing, can tarnish the pure, undiluted excitement that this game can inspire in its fans. Enjoy:

We Will Finally be Playing Retro City Rampage in May

I feel like I’ve heard about this game for years now and have only had the few trailers and news tidbits creator Brian Provinciano have slowly leaked out. RCR looks to be about everything fun I want out of a retro style Grand Theft Auto game. The trailers alone have sold me on what Brian is crafting with the great music and constant throwbacks to old NES games. The reason it has taken so long is all in due to Mr. Provinciano being the sole programmer on the game. He basically handles everything besides the music and a few little…

Black Ops 2 Has Been Revealed From Numerous Sources

Let’s go ahead and get the major fact out of the way that we all knew a Call of Duty game would be releasing this year. What we didn’t know was what direction Treyarch would be taking this mega franchise. CoD gets passed around between two developers: Infinity Ward and Treyarch. Infinity Ward started the Modern Warfare series and spun that out to a trilogy while Treyarch was making the filler titles inbetween the MW releases. Treyarch received a lot of flack for taking on this role creating games like CoD 3 and CoD: World at War; both respectable and…

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Now Accessible for Xbox Live Silver Members

Mass Effect 3′s multiplayer is now available for all to play. I have not tested the multiplayer on PC or PS3, but it does work for both Xbox Live Gold and Silver members. I double checked with my newly created Silver account and it is also visible and ready for download. But, being able to play Mass Effect 3 does not appear to give Silver account holder complete Gold access.

Telltale Outlines Details of The Walking Dead Game

Hot off the heels of the Jurassic Park game, Telltale’s latest foray finds them surviving a zombie outbreak set in Robert Kirkman’s universe of the Walking Dead. While I wasn’t so hot on Telltale’s previous game, I’m still really excited to see how they translate this world into a video game. For starters, The Walking Dead game will follow a new cast of characters, not Rick Grimes and his bunch, but plans to follow the fiction of the comic book more than the television show. Also the game will be episodic which is more in line of a traditional Telltale…

Assassin’s Creed III to Release October 30th

While its announcement was largely inevitable, I am still excited to report that Assassin’s Creed III officially has a release date: October 30th. The news was the highlight of today’s earnings call by developer Ubisoft. Ubisoft President Yves Guillemot did not mention any details other than the name and release date, but confirmed that the game has been in development for three years (when the last numbered Assassin’s Creed game came out) and that it will be the largest marketing push in Ubisoft’s history.

Rayman Origins Actually Turned a Profit

Try as they might, pulling out every stop on the road to “Best Games No One Played” status, and likely stopping just short of ritual sacrifices to Kotickulhu, pagan deity of creative dead-ends and unappreciated genius, Ubisoft actually seems to have recouped its investment on Rayman Origins. Ubisoft CFO Alain Martinez vaguely confirmed the news in an investment call yesterday morning, quote, “We believe Rayman Origins, which is rated 89 percent on Metacritic with enthsiast[ic] reviews and is already profitable, has the capacity to become a long-term seller for the company.” Notice that he neglected to say just what the…

Getting Gold Access with the Mass Effect 3 Demo

Two weeks ago it was announced that Xbox Live Silver member could get free Gold access by downloading the 360 demo of the hotly anticipated Mass Effect 3. Gold access is supposed to last until the game’s release on March 6. As of right now, it’s not working.

Gotham City Impostors Getting DLC, First Round’s on Monolith

Now that the veil (cowl?) has finally been pulled away from Gotham City Impostors, it’s been making quite a name for itself. In addition to respectable reviews across the board, Darkstation capped it with a 9, the game seems to have launched with a strong community in hand. Developer Monolith, in no hurry to lose momentum, has announced on the GCI website that the first bit of DLC will arrive in March, free of charge. Players can expect a new map, set on the 25th floor of the Gotham Times building, as well as a few stability improvements traditionally in…

A Diablo 3 Delay, Talking Pandas, 20 Million Skylanders Figures Come out at the Activision Earnings Call

Where THQ’s earnings call showed a company in crisis mode, Activision’s call confirms their financial dominance of the industry. Here are some highlights: Skylanders is a big hit with children (at heart) Activision has been the home of two of the biggest money making powerhouses in video gaming — World of Warcraft and Call of Duty — for a while now. This earnings call cemented toy line/videogame hybrid Skylanders as their next big cash cow. Children bought 20 million of the Skylanders figures that players use to interact with the game. World of Warcraft will see new content soon, hopefully…
