Viacom Ordered To Pay Harmonix

The ongoing battle between Harmonix and Viacom took an interesting turn today as the parent company of MTV has been ordered by a private arbitrator to pay the Rock Band creator over 380 million dollars. The biggest source of contention in the lawsuit is Harmonix’s claim that Viacom has failed to pay bonuses totaling up to 150 million dollars. Viacom expressed excitement over acquiring the company back in 2007, but their attitude since then has been nothing short of hilarious.

First, the Kojima Productions Twitter account clarified that this game isn’t an official sequel to Metal Gear Solid 4. Revengeance will instead be a non-canonical, action-oriented take on the setting and characters in the Metal Gear Universe by Platinum Games.

New DLC for Bastion to Release Next Week

On December 14th, one of my favorite games of the year will get a good chunk of extra content. The “Stranger’s Dream” pack will include a new trip to Who Knows Where, two new gameplay modes (“Score Attack” and “No Sweat”), and new leaderboards. The new trip to Who Knows Where will be longer than those in the original game, with new voice-overs and an expanded look into the Bastion universe. No Sweat mode is, as you might expect, a way to play through the game and experience the (terrific) story without worrying about difficulty. The game will resurrect you every time…

Tell Me About The Numbers: BF3 v. MW3 Sales Figures

The final stretch of 2011 saw two juggernauts going head to head in order to determine who would be crowned champion of modern warfare-themed first person shooters. Activision was banking on its past success with the Modern Warfare brand with the release of Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 3, while EA was pushing DICE’s Battlefield 3 as the game that would go “beyond the call.” While both games have their merits and achieved critical success, there are those who are quick to use sales figures in order to choose a victor. Speaking at the Baird Technology Conference, EA CFO Eric Brown…

A Little Bit of Ezio in Final Fantasy XIII-2

In what may be the weirdest crossover I’ve personally seen in the past 20 years of gaming, Ubisoft and Square Enix have teamed up to put a little bit of Assassin’s Creed into Final Fantasy XIII-2. Ezio Auditore da Firenze who is the central character of the Assassin’s Creed 2, Brotherhood, and now Revelations will make an appearance in the game, well sort of. Specifically his outfit from the recent Revelations game will be a downloadable outfit for Noel Kreiss, one of the main characters in the upcoming sequel to Final Fantasy XIII.

Final Fantasy To Become An Annual Release

Speaking to Eurogamer, the developer and producer of Final Fantasy XIII-2 believes that one way to save a series that many believe to be stagnating is to take a page from Activision. Yoshinori Kitase explained that one of the problems with Final Fantasy XIII was his belief that development on the game took too long and that the short turnaround time for games like Call of Duty and Assassins Creed is just what the series needs.

Enemy Front Takes Us Back to WWII

City Interactive finally announced that they are hard at work on very gritty WWII experience Enemy Front. The game will use the CryEngine 3 which can be seen on Crysis 2 and the upcoming Homefront 2 and is scheduled for a release on 360, PC, and PS3. The man behind Enemy Front is the same who was behind the widely loved EA shooter Black so this shooter has plenty of credit behind it before it ever sees a release.

Rockstar To Develop ‘Bully’ Sequel?

File this under “Exciting, If True!” In an interview with Gamasutra, Rockstar Vice President Dan Houser dropped a hint regarding the potential sequel to their 2006 open world boarding school simulator, Bully. The interview primarily discusses the mindset of creating a new Max Payne game and when asked on why it took so long to develop a third game, Houser indicated that it is Rockstar’s ideology to allow games to cool before beginning work on a sequel.
