Capcom Fiscal Reports Show Surprising Successes, Unsurprising Losses

Ever since games like Bionic Commando and Dark Void, Capcom’s been in an odd position. They’ve had no idea how to appeal to Western gamers, they’ve had a lot of problems with working with developers outside of Japan, and they’ve put out enough fighting games that I’ve actually built a house out of boxes of all the ones that have come out since Street Fighter 4. Their games have been kind of weird, both in the fact that they keep re-releasing games that we’ve already bought, and that they make companies put out peripherals almost exclusively for them (they’re one of the few companies that really use the Circle Pad Pro).

A Trip to The Microsoft Store: $99 Xbox 360 Details

This afternoon, my keyboard crapped out on me right as news hit that Microsoft is selling an Xbox 360 4GB Kinect bundle with a $15 per month 2 year contract. I decided to visit my neighborhood Microsoft Store to ask some questions (and replace my poor old keyboard). Here’s what I learned: This is not a massive experiment This bundle deal is only available in brick and mortar Microsoft stores, of which there are only 16. This will not be available in the online Microsoft store, or in any other retailer. There was no signage in the store that I…

Confirmed: Microsoft Launching $99 Xbox 360 Bundle with Two Year Contract in Microsoft Stores

Update (5/7): The Verge confirms that Microsoft will start this unique pricing model in brick and mortar Microsoft retail stores today. Customers will need to have a specific coupon in hand to take advantage of the deal. My guess is that they are testing the waters for pricing models in the next generation, otherwise this would be available more widely. I happen to be going to a Microsoft store later today to replace my keyboard (it took me 30 minutes to type this update), so I will ask about it and update this article later. Original Story Below This is…

An April Fool’s Day Miracle! Saints Row 3 Expansion Now Officially Official

On April Fool’s Day, game companies tend to be split two ways. Some companies announce things and set up elaborate things on their website that clearly aren’t real- Ed Boon spent his whole April 1st just agreeing that they’re making everything anyone ever asked for (including MK vs. Killer Instinct, which is still being reported as real on blogs). Others, though, go ahead and announce all kinds of awesome sounding things, only to crush fans when they don’t happen.

Xbox 360 and Windows 7 Banned in Germany

Yes, you’ve read the title correctly. Motorola has won an injunction preventing the sale of Xbox 360′s, Windows 7, Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer in Germany after a court ruled that Microsoft has infringed two patents. Microsoft took pre-emptive measures to save money by moving production out of Germany before the verdict, but they do plan to appeal the ruling, which they say would cost them $4 billion a year.

Rumor: Microsoft launching a $99 Xbox 360 with Two Year Contract

Technology site The Verge once again scoops a Microsoft story that points to a renewed emphasis on taking over living rooms cross America. As early as next week, Microsoft will debut a $99 Xbox 360 that’s tied to a 2 year contract. Like a cell phone. According to the Verge’s source, the bundle would include a 4 GB Xbox 360 with a Kinect sensor. The 2 year subscription would be $15 per month, and would enable the Gold tier of Xbox Live service as well as some additional streaming content. This is all backed by a 2 year warranty, and…

Always Wanted to be a Bond Villain? 007 Legends Has Your Back

Get those golden appendages and gnarly dental work ready, Activision and developer Eurocom are giving gamers a crack at appearing as a minor villain in the upcoming James Bond title 007 Legends. Entitled “Get in the Game”, fans can currently submit photos of themselves getting their spy villain on to the game’s official website.  Both digitally altered photos and healthy doses of practical effects (and dressing up courtesy raids on nearby GoodWill’s) are allowed. The developer chosen top 10 results will become public May 24th and  voting will be conducted on the website between May 25 through June 6.  Highest voted creation will be dumped in…

Max Payne 3 DLC is both Extensive and Pricey

Rockstar Game’s let the proverbial cat out of the downloadable bag today by detailing the post-release scheduled support for the upcoming (and long awaited) noir drenched Max Payne 3. Max Payne 3 will feature multiplayer for the series’ first time and Rockstar is banking on feverish community support as it has announced a stunning seven piece DLC suite to be dumped throughout the rest of the year.  Most content will be multiplayer map packs, with the exception additional mode pack and a co-op focused add-on to be released at a latter date. The first chuck of DLC, the map pack dubbed…

Popular Games Get Sequels: Black Ops 2 Officially Announced

I feel like it’s impossible to overstate Call of Duty’s importance to the games industry. I know you’re probably feeling a little burned out on it, and you’re bothered by how many first person military shooters are out there now, but in the end, these are the highest-selling games each year, and with the announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops II being made official today, Activision is looking for another banner year for what’s essentially the flagship game of video games.
