Fear Bioshock Infinite’s Siren

Ending their month long character reveals for Bioshock Infinite, Irrational Games are detailing the final “Heavy Hitter” enemy type players will encounter on their voyage to the hellish heights of Columbia; The Siren.   With her ability to raise fallen henchmen from death, the timid Siren will definitely be a target that Booker DeWitt will want to train his sights on ASAP. Bioshock Infinite screeches onto shelves October 16th in North American and October 18th throughout the world on PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

Rockstar Implementing New Clan Features for Max Payne, GTA V

What serves as a multiplayer enhancement for Max Payne 3 also ends up being the first bit of news for Grand Theft Auto V. Claiming to go “beyond traditional online clans,” Rockstar is implementing a Crews feature that will allow further interaction with team members through special customizations and gameplay modes that will carry over to future Rockstar games.

Grasshopper Manufacture Considering Shadows of the Damned 2

Despite what Phil Fish might have to say about it, I love Japanese game development. There’s always a very distinct feel to them, and Grasshopper Manufacture and studio head Suda 51 specifically have a reputation for doing things against the grain, and making choices that may not make the most business or critical sense. The company has a strong fan following, though, and I personally love the unique touch they bring to the games they develop.

Microsoft Announces Xbox Live Arcade Promotion with Minecraft and Another Surprise

Microsoft announced another Xbox Live Arcade promotional event, this time called “Arcade Next.” The event spans four weeks between April 18th and May 9th, with a new game releasing every Wednesday. Here’s a rundown of the games included in the promotion. April 18th — Trials Evolution The sequel to 2009′s physics-racing blockbuster (over 2 million in sales!) has arrived. Trials Evolution adds a new real-time competitive multiplayer mode in addition to the single player and ghost-racing modes from the previous game. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the 1200 point price for the game will help offset the cost of any…

Bioshock Infinite’s Boys of Silence will Hush You Up

Continuing their Youtube roll out of the “Heavy Hitter” characters from the upcoming Bioshock Infinite, Irrational Games are serving up a quick and not so quiet preview of the Boys of Silence enemy type.  Described in the same sentence as the security cameras from Rapture, The Boys of Silences are a creepy unit that attempts to hunt down the player and alert nearby foes to their presence.  The character design is nothing short of top notch; honestly to be expected at this point from Kevin Levine and company.  Outfitted in a solid bronze mask that completely obscures vision, The Boys…

Dr. Muzyka Responds To Mass Effect 3 Controversy

In the wake of all the controversy of Mass Effect 3′s ending, Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of Bioware, posted a personal letter to the Mass Effect community earlier today. In it, he partially explains Bioware’s stance on the future of Mass Effect 3. He says, “I believe passionately that games are an art form, and that the power of our medium flows from our audience…At the same time, I also believe in and support the artistic choices made by the development team. The team and I have been thinking hard about how to best address the comments on ME3’s endings from players, while still maintaining the artistic integrity of the game.”

Obsidian One Point Away From New Vegas Bonuses

This is just…sad. Chris Avellone of Obsidian Entertainment revealed on his Twitter account today that Obsidian Entertainment had been denied financial bonuses (EDIT: the tweet has vanished hours after it appeared this morning) from Bethesda for the development and success of Fallout: New Vegas because they did not achieve a Metacritic score of 85 or better. The practice of witholding rewards based on Metacritic scores is nothing knew, but what makes this instance all the more disgusting is the fact that Fallout: New Vegas earned a respectable score 84 from the site.

Ever since the reveal of 2K’s first person shooter “re-imagining” of the classic PC strategy series “X-Com”, cries of blasphemy have echoed throughout the cyberspace. Those cries were all but stifled with the announcement of Firaxis’ turn-based X-Com title late last year. Any remaining naysayers (and general curious parties) should definitely check Firaxis’ first developer video blog
